It probably has more to do with the abilities of the translators. (I’m assuming here that you didn’t read Marx or Hegel in the original.) I have had a lot of experience in turning the unbelievably convoluted sentences of German writers into comprehensible English. There were instances when I spent a half hour on a single sentence.

Much easier to read than anything by Marx. Perhaps it’s because Smith was never subjected to the pernicious influence of Hegel.
