The Edukators (2004)

If you want more of the Cornel West vs. Ta-Nehisi Coates debate but are sick of Cornel West and Ta-Nehisi Coates here’s a great forgotten movie. Three young Generation X punks kidnap a liberal Boomer capitalist pig and try to talk him out of his illusion that you can be both a capitalist and a decent person. Even though it was made in 2004 at the height of the Bush years, it seems more relevant than ever. In this scene, the middle-aged liberal is clueless about, or to be more honest, he doesn’t care about what’s going on in the global south. The three young radicals harshly remind him.

This movie is a liberal’s dream! It’s too bad that the majority of Americans, many liberal, either don’t care or don’t have the time to care about their daily choices that lead to life’s inequities. Perhaps if they took time from violently throwing their money at the Walt Disney Company (overindulging their grandkids for only their 5th trip to Disney this year) and instead cared to examine alternative media, we might make life more bearable for all of us. But they don’t take the time, and they don’t care. Which is why the powers-that-be can put up fake choices for us to select from. Nothing changes, and why should it? There is too much money in war.

To keep war going the powers- that-be give us bread, circus and Disney – plenty of that. To compound the issue, they’ll give these programmed robots the right to vote thus diluting, derailing or mocking any true reform movement. So what if thirty million know the truth? 150 million know a lie!

Violence and kidnapping, as in this movie, is a logical thought but ultimately a fruitless guilty pleasure. We’re outgunned and outmanned – too many robots.

Man’s search for fairness is inextricably linked to patiently moving away and setting up a new shop elsewhere.

Maybe next time we will get it right. As Mark Twain said: If voting mattered, they’d never let us do it.

Actually it’s not a liberals dream. The middle-aged capitalist the three young radicals kidnap *is* a liberal. It’s a liberal’s nightmare.

As Mark Twain said: If voting mattered, they’d never let us do it.

The massive attempts at suppressing black voters in Alabama indicates that voting does, indeed, matter, and that they are trying to make it illegal for anybody not a white, evangelical Republican. I have never once in my 30 years of voting had to show ID. Yet if you’re a black Democrat in the South you go through a screening process at the polls that makes a high security clearance background check look easy.

Thanks Stan, your post engendered a nice Jeep ad, bilingual for my enjoyment here in Qubec. Ha ha, car ads, imagine, that repetition thing, over and over, but we don’t know at all, ehh, the psychological warfare of modern advertising, using unconscious tricks we’ve been exposed to for years. Internet? Ha ha, a new playground for dumb ads and dumber marketers who just don’t get that people should be throwing bricks at relentless assaults of advertising.
